Making fire

Making fire

Note gasoline near boxes of wood at right.

My best technique for making a fire is to tear up a paper grocery bag and place crumpled pieces on the bottom of the firepit; fill with wood pieces; pour gasoline over all; allow gasoline to evaporate for ten or fifteen minutes; come back and gingerly light the paper on fire with an extended lighter.

This wouldn’t work with a solid-sided vessel, but because of the perforations in the firepit, plenty of oxygen can get to the burning paper at the bottom and the wood catches easily.

Storm in the background (it never got to us) and an RC airplane at upper left.
