4.41 x 2.84 x 1.35 inches and just 5.6 ounces.

This unit features Whistler’s low-profile “alert periscope” LEDs that flash when the unit alarms.

Battery Powered Operation
The unit can provide approximately 15 hours of laser/radar detection on three rechargeable batteries (included). It’s handy for those who frequently switch cars, or use rentals, or who just don’t want a power cord dangling over the dash.

A power cord is included, which will both provide power to the detector and recharge the unit’s batteries.

Blue Backlit Text Display
The XTR-440’s blue backlit text display provides distinct visual confirmation of signals detected, signal strength, and indicates engaged modes of operation.

Twin Alert Periscopes
Whistler’s Low Profile Alert Periscopes provide an added attention getting visual alert. The two extra LEDs flash on and off when the unit alarms to provide a unique visual alert.

Selectable Total Band Protection
This unit provides complete band coverage of all Laser, Radar (X, K, and Ka bands), VG-2, and Safety Radar bands. You can select which bands to leave on or off based on your detection needs.

360 Degree Protection
Units with 360 protection detect signals from all radar, laser, VG-2 and safety radar systems wherever they come from; front, rear or from the side.

3 City Modes/Highway Mode
Highway mode provides full audio and visual warning of laser/radar systems while maintaining full sensitivity, and is the default setting of Whistler laser/radar detectors. City mode helps reduce the annoyance of automatic door openers and burglar alarm alerts by providing an initial alert (same distance as Highway Mode) then remaining quiet unless the signal strength becomes very strong. When the signal increases the unit will alert briefly to notify you of the change in signal strength.

Filter Mode
There are times when a radar detector can emit the same frequency as police radar and can cause your detector to falsely alarm. Sometimes a detector can display a signal when picking up another radar detector in vehicle close by. The Whistler Filter Mode option provides a method to study the signal and verify if it’s legitimate police radar or a false alert from another detector.

High Gain Lens
A high gain optical lens provides increased sensitivity and field of view for leading-edge laser detection.

Tone Alerts
Provides distinct audio warnings for X, K, Ka band radar, safety radar, laser and VG-2.

Stay Alert
Whistler’s exclusive Stay Alert feature tests your alertness on long trips.

Seven Dim/Dark Mode
Dim/Dark Mode reduces the illumination of the display. The backlighting can be programmed to be illuminated all the time, only when alarming or choices in between.

Quiet/Auto Quiet Modes
Pressing QUIET before a signal is detected engages Auto Quiet Mode, which automatically reduces the audio level after the initial warning to a low audio level setting. Pressing QUIET during a radar/laser encounter silences audio alerts, while allowing visual alerts to keep you informed.

Alert Priority
When two or more signals are received at the same time, the alert priority is: Laser, VG-2, Speed Radar, Safety Radar.

Example: If X band is alerting, then suddenly a VG-2 signal is detected, the VG-2 warning will override the X band alert.

Setting Saver
Setting Saver saves your personalized settings so that when the detector is turned off and then on again, you do not have to re-enter them.

Selectable Auto Shut Off
Auto Shut Off Mode automatically shuts off the detector. The timer is reset when the detector is turned off, the power cord is unplugged, or a button is pressed. This helps save batteries. The detector will alert you with an audible and visual warning before it shuts off.

Safety Warning System–SWS
This relatively new radar is not for speed detection at all, it is used to keep you informed of highway safety. Transmitters are installed and programmed (for example: in emergency vehicles) to make you aware of possible situations that may require your attention, such as: ambulance vehicles that are moving or stationary, road hazards ahead, road construction delays or detours, etc.

VG-2 Cloaking
The VG-2, also known as a “radar detector detector,” is a special receiver used by police to detect signals radiated by a radar detector. Thanks to Whistler’s patented VG-2 cloaking technology, your detector will remain invisible to VG-2 detection.

Decent radar detector but batteries don’t last long. I’ve had various radar detectors over the past 30 years and they’ve all been Whistler. It’s a brand that I trust and I’m so used to the alert sounds that I don’t need to even look at it to know what’s going off. So as far as the ability to detect the various signals, it works as you would expect. It gives you enough warning to slow down. The problem is the advertised 15 hours of charged battery life. I’ve now tested the full charge about a half dozen times and I get about 3 hours MAYBE of…

Great Radar Detector OK Heres The Real Deal!…I just love my new Whistler 440.First off let me state I’m not a chronic speeder so that’s not really WHY I really bought my detector. Now I’ve had two others as the first one was a Belltronics battery model, and the second was a Cobra cord model. Now the Whistler XRT 440 beats them both hands down. The Belltronics wouldn’t pick up the newer bands, And the Cobra while good picked up a lotta wrong signals and also…

Screen is terrible. First off, I’ll say this Radar Detector works admirably. However, for me it was a “must return” item. The problem was that I could barely get to read the LCD screen on this device during daylight hours. The screen was impossible to read if the sun was high in the sky. The alerts and chirps work fine. It alerted me to the presence of a speed trap on multiple occasions. However, that only does you a little bit of good if you can’t make out the words on the screen…
